Blears says fear of offending ethnic minorities has gone too far
GOVERNMENT Communities Secretary Hazel Blears, will set in a speech this week out how the fear of offending ethnic minorities has gone too far.
According to her speech, which was released to a Sunday newspaper, the minister’s views will be seen as an attack on Harriet Harman, leader of the Commons, who has made several speeches and announcements in recent months about equal rights for minorities.
Miss Harman has been criticised of manoeuvring herself for the leadership if Labour loses the next election under Gordon Brown.
Ms Blears’ comments that the tradition of fair play, being tolerant of others and welcoming diversity is backfiring and “People are getting into a panic because someone somewhere might get offended.”
She adds that genuine unacceptable behaviour such as forced marriage, homophobia or female genital mutilation are not being addressed because people are upset about people’s cultural sensitivities.
“This flies in the face of another of our traditions – open debate, rational inquiry and plain old common sense. We would do well to be a little less anxious and a little more robust.”

OBVIOUSLY,,, i find this all very interesting.
for too long now, we have been told in britain that we can not do this and we cannot do that, because it might offend one or two people in a minority.
an example that stares us in the face is the muslim example.
its well known over here that most people think of muslims as terrorists.
in fact, only a very small minority are terrorists, maybe 0.001% are actually terrorists.
the rest are genuine muslims with no hang ups and are happy to fit in with our laws and ways.
so then, we are giving in to a very small minority that have found a loud voice connected to a do-gooders mouth.
the do-gooder will shout from the rooftops about human rights and offensive british behaviour.
while i aggree it is wrong to shout things like "paki go home" and "niggers out", i also aggree with the majority of immigrants who choose to be in this country when they say, "it doesent offend us for you to celebrate christmas, have fairy lights, eat pork, etc etc etc",,, and its about time someone actually stood up for the normal person in the street, and decided that enough is enough.
for too long we have put up with our freedom of speech being curtailed, our free choices being taken away, and then being told what we can and cant say in our own country.
its no wonder that so many brits are leaving britain behind. and making a life in other parts of the world while never looking back.
my son in law is a pure pakistani, and he has freedom of speech in my home.
he is free to say what he likes without fear of ridicule and or rebuke.
he is a practicing muslim and prays 4 times daily.
he abides by the coran and all it stands for, and at no point does it tell him to go around blowing things and people up!
he loves our christmas celebrations and actively takes part in them.
he does christmas shopping and gives presents to all the people he loves.
he smokes, and drinks, though neither to excess.
and he can see the error of the british ways when they give in to demands to syop saying something, doing something, or even thinking something which amounts to "offending a minority!".
his view is that they decided to live here, they should also decide to accept our ways and traditions.
if they cant, they should not be here and should go home without delay.
he believes they are undermining our society and dictating to us what we should and shouldnt do.
there is allways the possiblity that we as a people could rise up and engage in civil war to rid our country of the ethnic minorities, but we are just too civilised for that.
and thats where i leave this blog installment.
please feel free to comment.
